Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) in Perth

Cognitive-behaviour therapy, also commonly known as CBT or cognitive behavioural therapy is a structured type of therapy. It works with how we view and interact with the world around us. Often how we see the world is distorted by our beliefs and this can in turn affect how we behave. The result can be low mood, depression, anxiety and upset.

Our CBT therapists and psychologists will work with clients to develop techniques and skills that may bring about beneficial changes in their thinking, behaviour and mood.

Is cognitive behaviour therapy effective?

This type of therapy has been shown to be effective for a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety and phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders and panic. And because clients learn techniques they can apply themselves on a day to day basis, problems are less likely to return. Research evidence suggests that this type of therapy is as effective as drug treatments for depression and anxiety.

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is a specific type of therapy which combines cognitive therapy and meditation techniques. It has been specifically developed to reduce relapse and recurrence of depression. It also has been shown to help people with anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome and insomnia.
